Mario’s Seven Summits’ Celebration Day

On the 23.09.07 the celebration of Mario’s Seven Summits was held in an ancient country cottage set in a wonderful landscape on a hillside town called Montepastore, overlooking the city of Bologna. Over one hundred friends and relatives participated including many of Mario’s expedition companions as well as notorious mountain climbers such as Kurt Diemberger, Fausto De Stefani, Christoph Hoebenreich, Hans Muchlectner, Nadia Tiraboschi, David, Giuseppe Comba, Manuel Lugli, Marco Epis and more.
The interviews were carried out and coordinated by Roberto Mantovani and after lunch, in the large open-air courtyard and under a warm splendid sun, Mario entertained his guests by recounting his experiences, from Mount Vinson in Antartica up to the peak of Mount Everest, to close the circle of his Seven Summits: an itinerary made up of deep emotions which were deeply shared by all of those who were present. The film director, Ugo Antonelli, who is presently working on the film of Mario’s Seven Summits, said that all were present; only Mount Everest was missing in the background.
To give an even greater significance to this memorable day, a raffle was organized by Daniela Archivio and Paolo Lorenzon, to raise funds for the school which Fausto De Stefani opened in Kirtipur, in the valley of Kathmandu, in Nepal totally financed by money raised through his numerous conferences. All friends and relatives were most generous both in buying the raffle tickets as well as in contributing by offering different prizes. It was the best way to share this joyful day with the 800 children of Fausto’s school which Mario had visited whilst he was in Katmandu together with his relatives and friends who had joined him there to celebrate his accomplishment.
